‘Who Needs College Anymore? Imagining a Future Where Degrees Won’t Matter’

Join us for a rooftop happy hour and thought-provoking conversation with Kathleen deLaski, social entrepreneur, former journalist, and founder of the Education Design Lab. Kathleen’s new book, Who Needs College Anymore?, invites readers to explore how learning, credentials, and career preparation are evolving—and what this shift means for education leaders, employers, and policymakers alike.
At a time when the value of the traditional degree is being reexamined, Kathleen offers a grounded yet optimistic vision for a future where skills, not seat time, drive opportunity. Her work has helped shape national conversations on learner-centered design, micro-credentials, and the future of work.
This gathering will feature brief remarks from the author, followed by an informal Q&A and book signing—all set against the backdrop of downtown Denver.
Why this matters for Colorado: As our state doubles down on education-to-career innovation, this is a timely chance to engage with ideas influencing new models across the country; ideas that could help us build a more equitable and dynamic talent ecosystem here at home.
