Our Work
Increased Access to Affordable Housing
At Donnell-Kay Foundation, we are committed to creating lasting solutions to Colorado’s rural housing crisis. In many of these communities, few—if any—developers are willing to work because the profit margins are so thin. We step into that gap, focusing on building affordable homes where they are needed most but rarely built.
We partner closely with Rural Homes, a nonprofit based in southwest Colorado, to turn these projects from ideas into reality. Together, we look beyond traditional development models, exploring new and innovative approaches to make homeownership attainable. This includes supporting creative financing tools—such as the low-interest mortgage program for Colorado’s education workforce made possible through Senate Bill 167 (2025)—and identifying other unique ways to finance home construction and ownership for both educators and low-income families.
Our work is driven by the belief that stable, affordable housing is the cornerstone of thriving communities, and that every family—no matter their income or zip code—deserves a place to call home.
