John Burch is a passionate and strategic thinker who believes every child has the right to a good and equitable education, an education that starts in early childhood. John thinks that the issues facing our society today, particularly in education and early childhood, require bold, innovative solutions that are developed and driven by community members.

John comes to Donnell-Kay by way of Missouri and the San Luis Valley. In Missouri, John worked with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and collaborated closely with the Office of Childhood, where he saw the importance of community engagement in policy decisions. John also spent two and half years in the San Luis Valley, coming to the Valley first as an Americorps member with the Alpine Achievers Initiative and then working in public schools across the Valley as a substitute teacher. Each of these experiences instilled in him a deep love for Colorado and its people.

John has a B.A. in Political Science from Westminster College and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from the University of Missouri, along with a graduate certificate in Education Policy. In his free time, John enjoys being outside, reading a good history book, and rooting on his favorite sports team: the Kansas City Chiefs.
