Thirteen years ago, the Donnell-Kay Foundation embarked on a journey to bring nationally-recognized education experts to Colorado for a speaker series we called Hot Lunch. Since September of 2005, we strove to have engaging conversation on topics that could be enlightening, uncomfortable, innovative, and controversial, sometimes all in one sitting. While that is still our goal, it is time to shake up the format.
Don’t tell him, but we are going take Rick Hess’ advice from a Hot Lunch talk he gave about the challenges of doing education reform that was titled: How Not to Do the Same Thing Over & Over. Hot Lunch series will now be the Consider This... speaker series. (The past Hot Lunch lineups and topics are still located on the DK website.)
The Consider This... speaker series will occur at different times and different locations that are more relevant to the speaker(s) and topic, so a wider audience can participate. We want families, students and teachers to learn alongside and provide their input with Colorado education, policy and business leaders in conversations about current challenges and promising practices in education. Speakers will frequently have a national lens, but no longer do they have to come from beyond Colorado.
It will be a work-in-progress, so we look forward to your comments and seeing you at a Consider This... event.
For those already on the Hot Lunch email list, you will receive the Consider This... invitations. If anyone would like to join the Consider This... mailing list and receive future invitations, click here.
