Karen Mortimer

Before joining the Donnell-Kay Foundation, Karen Mortimer served our community as a full-time PTSA volunteer while her children were in elementary school. She continues to volunteer through Together Colorado, the DPS District Accountability Committee, Casa de Paz, the Growasis Community Garden and her church.

Karen's career path has taken her to small town America as a vocal music teacher, to Beijing and Tianjin as an ESL teacher in China, to Pasadena, California, as a cross-cultural trainer and finally landing in her home of 21 years, Colorado, as an administrator for several companies and organizations including the local non-profits of Neighborhood Ministries and Facing History & Ourselves. Karen, and her husband, Greg live in the Whittier neighborhood and have two children.

Her passions frequently have her in the middle of conversations regarding educational equity, immigration, gentrification and issues of race and class in our community.  She is thrilled to support the Donnell-Kay Foundation in its mission to transform the educational landscape.
