Blended Learning Summit 2010

"Colorado Summit on Blended Learning" held March 18, 2010

Several states and researchers have demonstrated that online and blended learning increase educational opportunities and improve outcomes for a wide range of students. Though we have learned of pockets of innovations sprouting up across our state and nation, the expansion of such efforts is happening at too slow a pace.

On March 18, 2010 we hosted a conference to further examine innovative national and local blended and online learning programs and systems. The conference discussed how Colorado can keep up with this movement in order to better prepare students for success today and into the future.

Information and Presentation Materials

Sufficient activities and research exist today to demonstrate that online and blended learning (use of both classroom and online learning within one program) can expand educational opportunities and improve outcomes for a wide range of students. We see pockets of innovation sprouting-up across our state and nation; however, expansion of such efforts is happening at a much slower pace than many would like to see happen here in Colorado.

As such, we convened a group of education and policy leaders from our state to learn more about innovative blended learning programs and systems (locally and nationwide) and to discuss what we need to do in Colorado in order to create the next generation of classrooms and schools that fully integrate online and leading technology into their programs in order to prepare students for success in the 21st Century. Specifically, we would like to:

Understand the blended and online learning landscape nationwide and how Colorado's efforts compare with those in other states.

Showcase leading-edge programs and systems that are moving blended learning forward in exciting directions.

Explore policy changes needed to eliminate constraints and to provide further growth of blended learning in Colorado.
