Postsecondary education has long been the primary driver on the road to the American dream. But is our American system of higher education prepared for the demands of the 21st Century? In response to this question, the U.S. Secretary of Education convened the Commission on Higher Education. In 2006, the Commission issued A Test of Leadership: Charting the Future of Higher Education which stated that dramatic change is needed in order to meet the demands of our current and future economic growth. As a result, the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education issued an Action Plan for Higher Education. The plan calls for increased access and affordability for more Americans, and for postsecondary schooling to be held accountable for performance. Join Sara Martinez Tucker, Under Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education, as she discusses the Action Plan and its impact on the future of higher education.
