DPS Blueprint - New School Development
and Beyond
A primary area of focus for the Donnell-Kay
Foundation is to help facilitate the creation of new,
smaller, high-performing schools that effectively
serve students. Donnell-Kay released two reports in
late 2007 urging Denver Public Schools (DPS) to create
an array of high-performing secondary schools to replace
chronically failing schools currently serving DPS
students.
But this strategy isn't limited to Denver. There is
an opportunity for districts across the metro area
to embark upon a new schools strategy that replicates
existing high performing schools and attracts successful
new school operators to our community.
To do this well will take bold leadership and a transformation
of current operations by school districts and teachers’
unions.
